Chandigarh hosts ‘Sham-e-Ghazal’ in Sector 10

Renowned artistes from Jaipur and Mumbai performed at the free ghazal evening in Sector 10

Chandigarh, September 24

Music lovers in Chandigarh enjoyed an evening of ghazals as the North Zone Cultural Center (NZCC), Ministry of Culture, Government of India, Patiala, in association with the Chandigarh Citizens Foundation, hosted ‘Sham-e-Ghazal’ at the Museum Auditorium, Sector 10, on Thursday.

The event brought together ghazal artistes from across the country and showcased the traditional form of ghazal singing through live performances.

Dr Sunil Rahi and his group from Jaipur and Vaqar Khan and his group from Mumbai performed during the programme, the organisers said.

The concert began at 5:45 pm and entry was free for the public, NZCC Programme Officer Rajesh Bakshi said.

NZCC Director Dr Ashwin M Dalvi said the event aimed to promote the country’s rich cultural heritage and introduce younger audiences to traditional musical forms.

“Ghazal singing is not merely a form of music; it is an expression of our cultural ethos,” Dalvi said, adding that the NZCC plans to organise more such programmes to promote and preserve India’s cultural traditions.

The event drew ghazal enthusiasts from Chandigarh and nearby areas.
