BharatNet work underway in 21 blocks across the 2 districts
Dharamshala: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) had connected around 300 panchayats in Kangra and Chamba with fibre networks as part of its ongoing expansion of digital connectivity in the 2 districts, a senior company official said on Thursday.
BSNL Senior General Manager for Kangra and Chamba Dr Vipin Kumar Maurya said the work was underway across 15 blocks in Kangra and six blocks in Chamba under the BharatNet programme.
Speaking at a press conference in Dharamshala on the occasion of BSNL’s 26th foundation day, Maurya said the organisation was implementing two major projects for expanding its 4G network. These include the Saturation Project under the Digital Bharat Nidhi and BSNL’s Phase-9.2 project.
He said the amended BharatNet Phase-3 programme had also included the Dharamshala business area. Pangi has been placed under a separate business area.
Maurya said the fibre connectivity would help residents in remote areas access e-banking, e-education, e-health and various government digital services without having to travel long distances. Online applications for services linked to documents such as Aadhaar and voter identity cards would also become easier, he said.
During this year’s Manimahesh Yatra, a BSNL team camped at Dhancho for around 1-and-half month to strengthen network services. The company also worked on radiation from the tower at Hadsar and extended network availability to Dhancho.
Maurya said the signal from Dhancho reached beyond Gaurikund, enabling pilgrims to remain in contact with their families. The network facility created during the pilgrimage was subsequently kept available for other consumers as well.
He said the BSNL’s 4G network uses technology developed in India and added that the company would continue improving its services based on consumer feedback.
