A bomb threat email targeting four government establishments in Himachal Pradesh’s Dharamshala triggered a major security alert, prompting authorities to evacuate the premises and launch extensive searches on Thursday. The Police said no explosives or suspicious objects were found, and an FIR has been registered against an unidentified person.
The threat emails were sent to PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Yol, Government Boys Senior Secondary School, the Municipal Corporation office, and the SDM office. Acting on a complaint filed by the principal of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Yol, police registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Sadar Police Station, Dharamshala.
Kangra Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma said all the affected premises were immediately evacuated after the threat was received. Bomb disposal squads and police teams carried out thorough searches at each location, but no explosive devices or suspicious material were recovered.
The SP said preliminary investigation revealed that the threatening email had been sent using the name “Khalistani National Army.” Police are collecting the sender’s IP address and other technical details to trace the email’s origin. Necessary information has also been sought from Google and other concerned agencies as part of the investigation.
Verma said security has been strengthened across the district ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15. Police, the Army, intelligence agencies and other security forces are maintaining close coordination and continuous surveillance to ensure public safety.
Appealing to the public to remain calm, the SP urged people not to pay heed to rumors and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies. He said such emails could be an attempt to create panic, but assured that the police are investigating the matter from every angle.
