Shourie flags affected bus routes, seeks faster road restoration and construction work

BJP workers in Banjar gheraoed the Public Works Department’s (PWD) Banjar division office over the poor condition of roads and affected bus routes, demanding faster restoration of roads and progress in ongoing construction works.

The protest followed an organisational meeting of the Mangalour BJP mandal held at the Banjar Rest House, attended by Banjar MLA Surendra Shourie and mandal in-charge Baldev Mahant. Booth-level workers from across the mandal participated in the meeting.

During the protest, party workers expressed concern over the functioning of the department and raised issues related to road restoration and construction work.

Shourie said more than 80 per cent of bus routes in the Banjar Assembly constituency were affected as roads required for the movement of large vehicles had not been restored on time. He said the alleged slow pace of work by the PWD was affecting the public.

He said people travelling on the Banjar-Bathahad, Damothi-Bharthidhar, Sidhwan-Galwahdhar and Sainj-Newli roads being constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Phase III were facing dust, potholes and risky journeys.

Shourie said around Rs 44 crore had been received from the Centre and questioned the condition of the roads despite the availability of the funds. He said the purpose of the Central funding was to ensure quality development on the ground.

He also urged the department to remain vigilant regarding the proposed upgradation of 20 roads in the Banjar Assembly constituency under the PMGSY Phase IV. He sought strict monitoring, quality construction and timely implementation of the works.

Shourie said wastage of funds provided by the Centre for public welfare and neglect of public interests would not be tolerated. He said BJP workers would continue to raise issues related to roads, transport and basic facilities.

Mandal office-bearers, booth-level workers and a large number of BJP workers were present.
