BJP accuses HP govt of political vendetta, alleges false cases against party leaders

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Himachal Pradesh president Dr. Rajeev Bindal on Friday accused the Congress government in the state of pursuing politics of vendetta and targeting BJP leaders through false criminal cases, alleging that democratic values were being undermined for political gains.

Addressing a statement, Bindal claimed that the Congress government had, over the past nearly four years, been functioning with a mindset of political revenge and oppression. He alleged that the ruling dispensation was attempting to suppress political opponents by filing false cases against BJP leaders, calling it an attack on the state’s democratic traditions.

The BJP leader alleged that whenever Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and the Congress suffered electoral setbacks, the government resorted to filing cases against BJP leaders instead of accepting the people’s mandate.

Citing recent political developments, Bindal said the BJP secured the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation despite the government’s efforts. He alleged that BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma was subsequently booked as an act of political retaliation. He also claimed that BJP leader Hoshiyar Singh was targeted after the Congress lost the Dehra Assembly by-election.

Referring to the Hamirpur Zila Parishad elections, Bindal said the BJP won 17 of the 19 seats while the Congress failed to maintain its presence in the district council. Following the results, he alleged, cases were registered against BJP MLA Ashish Sharma and other party leaders. He further claimed that BJP councilors in the Solan Municipal Corporation were also targeted after the party’s electoral success there.

Bindal alleged that the Congress government was carrying out a coordinated campaign across Himachal Pradesh to intimidate BJP leaders by implicating them in false cases and suppressing democratic voices. He asserted that BJP workers would continue to stand with the people and would not be deterred by such actions.

The BJP state president also accused the Congress government of failing to deliver on development, employment and public welfare, and alleged that it was using legal action against political opponents to divert attention from its governance shortcomings.

Expressing confidence ahead of the next Assembly elections, Bindal said the people of Himachal Pradesh would give the Congress government a “befitting reply” in 2027 by voting it out of power and giving the BJP a clear mandate.
