The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 for one week with immediate effect, citing the nation’s security situation following a recent escalation with Pakistan. The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after consultations with all key stakeholders, including franchise owners, broadcasters, sponsors, and players. According to the BCCI, most franchises conveyed deep concern for the safety of players and staff, and stressed that now is a time for national solidarity.

“While we have full faith in the preparedness of our armed forces, it is prudent to prioritise the collective interest of all stakeholders,” the BCCI said in a statement on Friday.

The Board added that a fresh schedule and revised venues for the tournament will be announced only after a thorough assessment of the situation, in coordination with security agencies and the Government of India.

At a time when the country is reeling from a terrorist attack and military aggression by Pakistan, the BCCI said it stood “firmly with the nation.” It praised the “heroic and selfless service” of India’s armed forces leading Operation Sindoor, the government’s counter-offensive in response to the crisis.

“Cricket is a national passion, but there is nothing greater than the nation’s sovereignty and security,” the statement said.

The BCCI also thanked its partners, including official broadcaster Jiostar, title sponsor TATA, and associate sponsors, for their unconditional support and for “placing national interest above all else.”

The Board’s move reflects a growing alignment between major institutions and India’s broader national priorities amid rising tensions in the region.
