Armaan Bhinder wins Vice-President post; Vishal Bamal leads General Secretary race with 2,737 votes
Chandigarh, August 31
ABVP candidate Ankit Bidhan has been elected president of the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC), securing 3,143 votes and defeating his nearest rival, ASAP’s Aadil Brar, by more than 500 votes.
Bidhan, a research scholar at Panjab University’s Centre for the Study of Social Inclusion, won the closely watched presidential contest, which saw candidates backed by several student organisations competing for the top post.
Celebrations broke out among ABVP supporters at the Student Centre after the result was announced, with students gathering for dhol beats, slogans and victory marches.
Addressing students after his victory, Bidhan said he would focus on resolving campus grievances, improving student welfare facilities and pursuing reforms in research and academics.
While Armaan Singh Bhinder of Urdu Department was elected Vice-President of the student council. Bhinder secured 1,532 votes, while his nearest rival, Akanksha, received 1,280 votes, giving him a margin of 252 votes.
Bhinder’s campaign received support from students across various departments and hostel blocks. His supporters also celebrated at the Student Centre following the announcement of the result.
Bhinder said his priorities would include addressing hostel-related concerns, improving campus infrastructure, pursuing academic reforms and ensuring more responsive student representation.
Meanwhile, Vishal Bamal of the University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS) was leading the race for General Secretary with 2,737 votes in the latest counting update. Candidates backed by the HSA and other student organisations were trailing him.
The PUCSC election witnessed an active contest among several student groups, with the races for the central posts attracting significant attention across the university campus.
