The Punjab State Women Commission, exercising its powers under Section 10 of the Punjab State Women Commission Act, 2001, has taken suo moto cognizance and issued a notice to former Punjab Chief Minister and current Lok Sabha member Charanjit Singh Channi. The notice pertains to allegations of making vulgar and derogatory remarks about women while addressing an election rally in Gidderbaha constituency.
The Punjab government’s official statement said that the PGWC, exercising its powers regarding cases related to the violation of women rights, dignity, and security, has summoned Charanjit Singh Channi to appear in person on November 19, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Punjab State Women Commission office located at SCO No. 5, 1st Floor, Phase-1, SAS Nagar (Mohali). He has been asked to provide a detailed explanation regarding the allegations.
