With Diwali approaching, Shastri Market in Sector 22 is seeing a heavy rush of shoppers as families step out to buy festive decorations, traditional diyas, idols, artificial flowers, and gift hampers. The market has taken on a festive look, with shops and roadside stalls displaying a wide range of decorative items in different designs, colours and price ranges.

From traditional earthen lamps to beautifully crafted idols and decorative hanging ornaments, vendors are offering several options for people preparing to celebrate the festival. Shoppers can be seen exploring different stalls and comparing prices before buying.

Traditional diyas remain among the popular choices during the festive season. Prices start at Rs 50, while in the Shastri Market street stalls, they range from Rs 100 to Rs 300. The stalls also display a variety of idols, including those of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Decorative latkans and other festive accessories are also attracting shoppers.

A woman selling diyas on the street said that she sources the products from Kolkata, from where the entire stock is brought to Chandigarh. She said the stock had arrived around 10 days ago. The collection includes different designs of earthen lamps and decorative pieces for Diwali celebrations.

Artificial flowers are another attraction in the market, with colourful varieties available for home decoration. Their prices range from Rs 250 to Rs 3,500, depending on the design and arrangement. Individual artificial flowers are available for Rs 100, while decorative flower vases are priced at up to Rs 2,000.

Shoppers can also find decorative garlands in different styles, including those made with rudraksh beads. These garlands are available for Rs 250 to Rs 550, giving customers different options for festive decoration.

Gift hampers are also drawing attention, particularly among people looking for Diwali gifting options. Decorated attractively and filled with items such as dry fruits and chocolates, these hampers are available in different sizes and price ranges. Their prices start at Rs 800 and go up to Rs 5,000.

Apart from stalls selling festive decorations, clothing stores, lifestyle product outlets and sweet shops are also witnessing considerable footfall. Families are visiting the market together to purchase clothes, sweets and other essentials for the festival. Crowded streets and busy shops reflect the growing excitement around Diwali shopping.

For local vendors and shopkeepers, the festive season is an important period for business, as demand for decorative products and gifting items increases. However, competition among sellers remains a major factor, particularly when it comes to pricing.

A vendor selling decorative latkans in Shastri Market said shopkeepers face considerable competition. He also shared that he sources his latkans from Ambala.

With shoppers exploring the market for everything from traditional diyas to decorative flowers and gift hampers, Shastri Market has become a busy destination for Diwali preparations. The variety of products and price ranges is giving customers several options as they complete their festive shopping.
