Paddy procurement resumed at the Dudhansadhan grain market after Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Harjot Kaur Mavi intervened, reviewed arrangements at Devigarh as well, and assured farmers and commission agents that their concerns would be addressed.

During a meeting with officials, farmers and commission agents at the market committee office, Mavi directed officials to ensure smooth procurement and prevent inconvenience to farmers and traders.

Farmers said parmal paddy yields were better than in previous years and the crop had not suffered from disease. Many farmers had opted for parmal paddy instead of basmati this season, they added.

Officials were also informed that several farmers had obtained fresh mapping under parmal paddy to sell their produce. The developments were expected to increase paddy arrivals at both mandis, prompting farmers and commission agents to seek higher procurement targets.

Officials assured the participants that their concerns would be addressed promptly. Following the meeting, procurement resumed at the Dudhansadhan mandi.

Mavi reiterated that farmers and commission agents would be facilitated during the procurement process. Officials also visited the two grain markets to assess arrangements, with farmers and commission agents expressing satisfaction with the market committee’s preparations.

Those present at the meeting included market committee chairman Baldev Singh, District Mandi Officer Aslam Mohammad, Agriculture Department officials Mandeep Singh and Vimalpreet Singh Joshan, District Food and Supplies Officer Varinderpal Kaur, and Market Committee secretary Ashok Kumar Jindal, besides market staff, procurement inspectors and representatives of farmers’ organisations and commission agents’ associations.
