The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has sought an expansion of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into drug-related killings in Punjab, including two cases involving men who allegedly opposed the drug trade.
According to a statement issued by the party, a SAD delegation met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and submitted a memorandum outlining four demands following the killing of anti-drug crusader Parvinder Singh Jhota.
The delegation sought the immediate dismissal of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and action against ministers, legislators and bureaucrats allegedly patronising the drug trade in the state.
It also sought a Class I government job for Jhota’s widow Manpreet Kaur and compensation of Rs 2 crore on humanitarian grounds. However, the memorandum clarified that the family and the action committee had not sought the assistance.
The party also called for the CBI investigation to cover the case of Gulzar Singh of Toor Banjara in Dirba and the killing of Bikramjit Singh of Sri Hargobindpur Sahib, who was allegedly hacked to death for opposing the drug trade.
