Punjab Police have arrested four people and seized 10kg of heroin in Amritsar, in a crackdown on a suspected narcotics smuggling network, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Thursday. The arrested men have been identified as Sukhraj Singh, a resident of Hargobind Avenue; Ajitpal Singh alias Mota, from Khandwala; Anmolpreet Singh, from Jawahar Nagar; and Robin Gill, from Chogawan village. All four belong to Amritsar district.

Police also impounded a Hero Splendor motorcycle and a black Honda Activa scooter allegedly used to transport the heroin.
Yadav said preliminary investigations suggested that the accused were working with smugglers based abroad and receiving heroin consignments for distribution in Punjab.
Acting on a tip-off, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar teams intercepted the four men near Dera Baba Darshan Singh in Ghanupur Kale village. Police said the suspects had retrieved a large consignment of heroin on the instructions of a foreign-based handler and were expected to deliver it to another party. The DGP said further investigations were under way to establish the supply chain, identify other suspects and dismantle the wider cross-border smuggling network.
A case has been registered under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the State Special Operations Cell police station in Amritsar. The FIR, numbered 67, was registered on October 22, 2026. The arrests come amid the Punjab government’s ongoing drive to curb drug trafficking under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
