Axar Patel and Washington Sundar claim two wickets each as India defend total
Chandigarh: India defeated Pakistan by 19 runs in the Asian Games men’s cricket final to retain the gold medal, with a strong batting display followed by a disciplined bowling effort.
India posted 211 for six in their 20 overs after being put into a position to set a substantial target. Abhishek Sharma provided the initial impetus, scoring 61 off 28 balls.
Tilak Varma then continued the momentum with an unbeaten 51 off 22 balls, while Shiv Dube also contributed as India finished with 211 on the board.
Pakistan was unable to chase down the target, handing India another gold medal in the competition.
With the victory, India retained the men’s cricket title after winning gold at the 2023 Asian Games in China.
India’s bowling attack was led by Axar Patel and Washington Sundar, who claimed two wickets each. Both bowlers conceded 29 runs in their respective spells.
The result marked another Asian Games gold for the Indian men’s cricket team, which entered the final seeking to retain the title won in the previous edition.
India’s medal tally was also boosted by Neeraj Chauhan, who won the bronze medal in the men’s individual recurve archery event at the Asian Games.
The cricket final was one of India’s key medal events, with the team facing Pakistan in the title clash.
With another gold medal in its kitty, India’s tally stands at 19 gold, 26 silver and 36 bronze medals for a total of 81, as of Day 15.
