Pargat Singh new Punjab Congress chief

Congress general secretary K C Venugopal announced the decision on Friday evening, saying the appointment would take effect immediately.

Warring resigned from the post earlier on Friday after meeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi.

The Congress thanked  Warring for his contribution as state party president.

The party said its working presidents and the chairpersons and co-chairpersons of various election-related committees in Punjab would continue in their existing positions. Pargat Singh, a former Punjab minister and MLA from Jalandhar Cantonment, will lead the state unit as the Congress prepares for the 2027 Punjab Assembly election.
