Governor, Deputy CM, Leader of Opposition and other dignitaries pay tributes to national leaders
Shimla: The birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri were observed in Shimla on Friday, with dignitaries paying floral tributes to the two national leaders and recalling their contributions to the country.
Governor Kavindra Gupta, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor Surender Chauhan and other dignitaries and residents attended the programme.
The Governor said Gandhi inspired the world with his message of truth, non-violence and peace. He said Shastri set an example of simplicity, honesty and dedication to national service and gave the country the slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”.
He also emphasised the importance of promoting cleanliness and honesty in public life.
Agnihotri recalled the contributions of Gandhi and Shastri and said the country continued to move forward on the path shown by the two leaders.
Thakur said Gandhi’s ideals of truth, non-violence and sacrifice continued to inspire society. He described Shastri as a symbol of simplicity, commitment to duty and strong leadership.
The speakers urged people to follow the ideals of the two leaders and ensure their thoughts and values were passed on to the younger generation.
