Police allege accused circulated misleading messages through social media groups
Patiala: The police have arrested two people for allegedly spreading misleading messages on social media and inciting students during the unrest at Chitkara University in Rajpura on the intervening night of September 25 and 26.
The accused have been identified as Himanshu, a resident of Nangal, and Aryan, a resident of Ambala, according to a police spokesperson.
The police said an FIR was registered at the Banur police station following the campus incident and a detailed investigation was launched. During the probe, investigators examined social media activity and messages circulated through various groups in connection with the incident.
According to the police, the two accused allegedly circulated misleading messages through social media groups, which contributed to tension on the university campus.
The police said 10 other people had also been named in the FIR. Teams have been sent to different locations to trace and arrest the remaining accused.
The investigation is also examining the role of other people allegedly involved in spreading misinformation, inciting students, damaging public property and obstructing government employees from carrying out their official duties, the police spokesperson said.
The police said further investigation was underway to establish the accused’s role and identify others involved.
