Bollywood filmmaker echoes Salman Khan’s concerns over photographs taken from behind

Chandigarh: Bollywood filmmaker Farah Khan has joined the debate over inappropriate paparazzi photographs of celebrities, asking photographers in Mumbai to avoid clicking her from behind and echoing actor Salman Khan’s recent comments on the issue.

When paparazzi approached Farah, she questioned why they had gathered and asked them not to photograph her from behind. Referring to Salman’s remarks, she said, “Salman bhai ne bola na peeche se nahi lene ka, turn karo, turn karo,” asking the photographers to turn their cameras.

Salman had raised the issue during the September 19 episode of “Bigg Boss 20 Weekend Ka Vaar”, criticising photographers for taking pictures of actresses from behind as they entered or exited cars. He said such photographs made many women uncomfortable and questioned the practice of using them to attract attention on social media.

He cited instances involving Saiee, daughter of actor Mahesh Manjrekar, and Neha Dhupia, his niece, while discussing the issue. He also urged women facing such behaviour to respond firmly.

In a subsequent statement, Salman said several photographers had understood his concerns and agreed to avoid the practice, while some continued. He added that experienced paparazzi generally treated celebrities with respect, while some people carrying phones and cameras might not be professional photographers.

Farah, who connects with audiences through her YouTube videos, previously hosted the first season of “Lock Upp”. She is set to host its second season, with Riteish Deshmukh joining her as co-host.
