India also collect medals in compound archery, sailing and squash on Day 13; men’s hockey, volleyball campaigns end
Chandigarh: Nitesh Siwach won silver in the men’s Greco-Roman 97-kg category on Thursday as India’s medal tally reached 63 on Day 13 of the Asian Games, with the country also adding medals in compound archery, sailing and squash.
Siwach reached the final after defeating Mongolia’s Gankhuyag Ganbaatar 9-0, becoming the first Indian Greco-Roman wrestler to reach an Asian Games final since 1962. He eventually settled for silver.
In compound archery, Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru won bronze in the men’s individual event. He lost 144-148 to South Korea’s Kim Jongho in the semifinal before winning the bronze-medal playoff.
India also secured silver in the men’s Skiff sailing event, with Manu Francis and Prince Noble Kurisinkal finishing with 23 points across nine races, behind China.
The women’s squash team comprising Anahat Singh, Tanvi Khanna and Joshna Chinappa won bronze after a 1-2 semifinal defeat against Hong Kong, China. The men’s team also took bronze after losing 1-2 to Malaysia in the semifinal.
In sepak takraw, India’s men’s quadrant team entered the semi-finals after beating Vietnam 2-0 and Myanmar 2-1 in Group A.
India’s men’s volleyball campaign ended in the quarterfinals following a straight defeat against Pakistan. In shooting, Anish Bhanwala finished seventh in the men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol individual final.
India’s tally stood at 63 medals, comprising 10 gold, 22 silver and 31 bronze.
