Industry, government discuss hydropower, solar potential and storage

Chandigarh, September 30

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Himachal Pradesh organised the sixth CII Power Conclave 2026 at the CII Northern Region Headquarters in Chandigarh to discuss renewable energy development, investment opportunities and infrastructure requirements in Himachal Pradesh, bringing together government and industry stakeholders.

R D Nazeem, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary (MPP and Power and NCES), Government of Himachal Pradesh, attended the conclave as the chief guest and highlighted steps being taken by the state government to facilitate investment and improve ease of doing business in the power sector.

Nazeem said the single-window clearance system had been streamlined to speed up project approvals and create a conducive environment for industries.

He also said Himachal Pradesh was the first state in India to undertake a river basin study to assess the environmental impact of hydropower development. He stressed the need to utilise the state’s renewable energy potential while maintaining a balance between energy development and environmental concerns due to its fragile ecology.

The conclave brought together companies and event partners, including JSW Energy Limited, AD Hydro Power Limited, Malana Power Company Limited, EnerGrid, Greenko, Two-Point-O Capital, Schneider Electric, GMR Bajoli Holi Hydro Power Private Limited, NHPC Limited, Delta Power and Sai Urja Hydel Projects Pvt Ltd.

The discussions covered the state’s hydro and solar potential, energy storage, grid integration, private-sector participation and development of a wider clean-energy ecosystem. Industry representatives also discussed solar and hybrid renewable projects, distributed generation and emerging clean-energy applications.

Participants stressed the importance of predictable policies, streamlined approvals and an enabling investment framework. The discussions also covered transmission, energy storage and grid resilience amid the growing share of renewable energy.

The conclave examined opportunities beyond conventional power generation, including clean-energy infrastructure, technology, manufacturing and emerging applications.

Sanjay Suri, Chairman, CII Himachal Pradesh and Managing Director, Morepen Laboratories, emphasised the need for an enabling ecosystem to attract private investment and support sustainable industrial growth in the state.

The conclave concluded with an emphasis on stronger government-industry collaboration to utilise Himachal Pradesh’s renewable energy potential, strengthen energy infrastructure and create opportunities for sustainable economic growth.
