Organisers seek Guinness World Records entry; Punjabi singer Kanwar Grewal to perform at opening ceremony

The Namo Cricket League final will begin at Tau Devi Lal Cricket Stadium in Sector 3, Panchkula, with 32 winning teams from different districts competing for the title in the tournament being held from September 28 to October 4.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will inaugurate the tournament, while Punjabi singer Kanwar Grewal will perform on the opening day.

Sanjeev Sood, a member of the Sudesh Bhandari Charitable Trust committee, said the tournament was being organised through the efforts of Trust Chairman and Chief Minister’s Political Secretary Tarun Bhandari.

Of the 92 teams that participated from Panchkula district, the team from Billa village emerged victorious and secured a place among the final 32 teams.

According to the organisers, the primary objective of the league is to keep youngsters away from drugs and encourage them to take up sports. As many as 3,400 teams and 55,000 players have participated in the league.

Nearly 90 per cent of the district and zonal-level matches across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand had already been completed, the organisers said.

The winning team will receive Rs 21 lakh, while the runners-up will get Rs 11 lakh. The teams finishing third and fourth will receive Rs 5 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh, respectively.

The Player of the Series will be presented with an electric vehicle, motorcycle, laptop and other prizes.

The organisers said the Namo Cricket League was being projected as the world’s largest cricket league and that the process of seeking its entry into the Guinness World Records had been initiated.
