Defeat Iran 37-34 to retain women’s kabaddi title as Sawan Barwal and rifle trio add silver medals

India has plenty to celebrate at the Asian Games 2026 after both its men’s and women’s kabaddi teams won gold. The men team beat Iran 40-34 in the final, while the women defended their title with a 37-34 win over Iran to claim their second straight Asian Games gold. India also picked up silver in the men’s marathon and women’s 50m rifle three-position event.
The Indian women faced a tough contest against Iran before securing gold. In the 2022 edition, India had beaten Chinese Taipei 26-25 to win the women’s kabaddi gold.
Sawan Barwal won a silver medal in the marathon, marking the first medal in 44 years, according to the source material.
India also secured a silver medal in the women’s 50m rifle three-position event through Ashi Chouksey, Tilottama Sen and Vidarsa Vinod.
In mixed doubles, Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar won bronze. Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh advanced to their respective singles finals at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.
The remaining schedule for Indian athletes includes several athletics events. Jyothi Yarraji and Nandhini Kongan will compete in the women’s 100m hurdles at 4:04 pm and 4:12 pm, followed by the men’s shot-put final featuring Tajinderpal Singh and Karanveer Singh at 4:30 pm.
Harita Bhadra and Unnathi Bolland will compete in the women’s 200m heats, while Praveen Chitravel and Karthik Unnikrishnan will feature in the men’s triple jump.
Yoonus Shah and Gulveer Singh will compete in the men’s 1500m heats. Prachi and Kiran will contest the women’s 400m final, while Vishal TK will compete in the men’s 400m final. Pooja and Parul Chaudhary will feature in the women’s 1500m final.
In badminton, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will face Japan’s Mayu Matsumoto and Yuki Fukushima in women’s doubles at 2:30 pm.
