Revised ceiling expands access to provident fund, pension and insurance benefits for employees

Shimla, September 25

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has raised the monthly wage ceiling for coverage from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000, with the revised limit coming into effect from September 17. The move will enable 96,244 employees in Himachal Pradesh who fall within the revised ceiling to access the EPFO’s social-security benefits, including provident fund, pension and insurance.

The revised ceiling widens the pool of employees eligible for EPFO coverage, allowing those earning above the earlier Rs 15,000 limit to come under the social-security framework, subject to applicable rules.

Additional Central Provident Fund Commissioner (In-charge, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh) Rajeev Bisht said Himachal Pradesh had 8,664 contributing establishments with 3,36,759 registered members. Of these, 96,244 members were covered under the earlier Rs 15,000 wage ceiling.

Addressing a press conference in Shimla, Bisht urged employers to ensure timely registration and enrolment of all eligible employees. He also urged workers to remain aware of their rights and social-security benefits.

The press conference also covered EPFO initiatives, including Vishwas 2026, the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, Employees’ Enrolment Campaign 2026 and Amnesty 2026.
