BJP workers protest with black ribbons as Sharma calls disproportionate assets case politically motivated and vows to present facts before the public.
Dharamshala, August 18
Dharamshala BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma appeared before the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau on Tuesday to respond to questions in connection with a disproportionate assets case registered against him.
A large number of BJP and BJYM workers gathered in support of Sharma at around 10 am, wearing black ribbons on their arms and staging a protest against the state government and Chief Minister. Sharma’s supporters also organized prayers at the Hanuman Temple seeking wisdom for the government.
Speaking about the disproportionate assets case, Sharma said the politics of filing FIRs and pressuring elected representatives and journalists who speak against the government would not work in Himachal Pradesh. He said the gathering in Dharamshala reflected public sentiment and claimed that people would respond to the government in the future.
Sharma said this was the first FIR of his political career and also the first such case involving the second political generation of his family. Calling the allegations baseless, he said the FIR contained incomplete facts and that he would present the complete information before the public.
He accused the government of indulging in political vendetta and said people had given it a five-year mandate to serve the state, not to pursue political revenge. Sharma denied having any corruption allegations against him during his political career and urged the government to focus on development.
On the heavy security deployment in Dharamshala, Sharma said someone was trying to create an atmosphere of fear. He said, “Truth always prevails.”
Sharma claimed that he continued to receive public support and said that the large gathering in Dharamshala was evidence of the people backing him.
