Panchkula Police Arrest Two in Highway Robbery Case

Police recovered the car allegedly used in the robbery; one accused has three previous criminal cases registered against him.

Panchkula Police have arrested two men for allegedly assaulting a truck driver and robbing him of around Rs 30,000 on the highway, officials said.

The accused have been identified as Rajat alias Motin, 32, a resident of Khurana Colony, Kalka, and Anil Kumar alias Balla, 38, a resident of Ratpur Colony, Pinjore. Police also recovered the car allegedly used in the robbery.

The incident took place on the night of August 13. The complainant, a resident of Kaithal, had travelled from Maharashtra to Malerkotla vegetable market with a consignment of bananas. He was later travelling with his conductor towards the Pinjore apple market to load another consignment.

The two stopped near a dhaba to have food. While the conductor went to get food, the complainant lay down inside the truck.

According to police, two men opened the conductor-side window of the truck, entered the vehicle and assaulted the driver. They allegedly snatched around Rs 30,000 from his pocket before fleeing in a white car.

DCP Crime and Traffic IPS Amarinder Singh said a case was registered at Pinjore police station on August 13, 2026, under Sections 309(4)(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Following the complaint, Crime Branch-3, led by its in-charge Tajinder Pal Singh, arrested both accused from Khurana Colony, Kalka, based on a tip-off on August 16, 2026, within 72 hours of the incident.

Police said the car allegedly used in the crime was also recovered during the operation. According to police, three criminal cases had previously been registered against accused Rajat. Police said both accused were produced before a court and sent to judicial custody in jail.
