35 panchayats in Kullu declared TB-free, honoured with medals

Two panchayats receive Gold, five Silver and 28 Bronze medals for their efforts to eliminate tuberculosis and raise health awareness.

As part of Himachal Pradesh’s ongoing campaign to eliminate tuberculosis (TB), 35 panchayats in Kullu district have been declared TB-free and honoured with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. The initiative aims to increase awareness about TB at the grassroots level and reduce cases. A special programme was organized at the Regional Hospital in Dhalpur, Kullu, where Acting Deputy Commissioner Surjeet Singh Rathore attended as the chief guest. Kullu Chief Medical Officer Dr Ranjit Thakur was also present.

According to the Health Department, nine panchayats each in Ani and Banjar health blocks, three in Jari, four in Naggar and 10 in Nirmand have achieved TB-free status. During the programme, two panchayats received Gold medals, five were awarded Silver medals, and 28 received Bronze medals for their efforts.

Dr Ranjit Thakur said the Health Department is continuously working towards the TB-free campaign and conducting awareness programmes across the district. He said 35 panchayats in Kullu have now achieved TB-free status. Gram Panchayat Jamad Pradhan Indira Devi said her panchayat achieved TB-free status for the first time. She added that the Health Department has been organizing awareness camps, while panchayat representatives are also working to educate residents about the disease.

Yogita, Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Bakhal in the Nirmand health block, said her panchayat received a Silver medal. She said awareness camps would continue to be organized in the future, with the panchayat working alongside the Health Department to strengthen the TB-free campaign further.
