Panjab University student election campaigning gains momentum

 Students at Panjab University have begun campaigning for their respective parties ahead of the student elections, as political activity on campus gains momentum. Student groups have begun reaching out to voters and highlighting their priorities for the upcoming polls.

Different student organisations are preparing their campaigns and seeking support from students while presenting their candidates and issues they intend to raise during the election process. The election activity has also brought student welfare, academics, accountability and democratic participation into focus.

Devraj Singh Nain, the Hindustan Student Association (HSA) candidate for the Panjab University student elections, thanked fellow students and supporters for their trust. He said he aimed to work for student welfare and to represent students’ concerns. Nain said he would focus on issues affecting students and work towards their welfare if elected.

Krish Sheoran, a UTI student who has been associated with the HSA for more than five years, said the party had faced management issues during previous elections. He said such issues had affected the party’s chances of performing well in earlier elections. Sheoran said the HSA would contest this time in a more organised manner and focus on student welfare.

Ajay Karan Singh, a student of the Department of Law at Panjab University, told The North News that the university elections were important for creating a more progressive and democratic space on campus. He also raised concerns over the death of student Jyoti, alleging negligence by the university and calling for greater accountability.

All India Students Association (AISA) candidate Armaan Singh told The North News that Panjab University had traditionally provided students with a democratic space to express their views, raise concerns and participate in peaceful protests. He said student movements had played an important role in highlighting issues related to welfare, academics and the university’s wider functioning.
