Dharamshala , August 14
Himachal Pradesh will launch Khelo Himachal on the lines of the Center’s Khelo India program, with competitions planned from the block level to the state level between October and November, Ayush, Youth Services and Sports Minister Yadvinder Singh Goma said on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters in Dharamshala, Goma said around eight to 10 sports, including volleyball, kabaddi and badminton, would be included in the program. Winners of the competitions would be given attractive prizes, he said.
The minister said the initiative aimed to provide a platform for budding sportspersons in the state and to encourage greater participation in sports.
On the political front, Goma criticized the BJP over what he described as “irresponsible statements” by its leaders. He alleged that leaders of the opposition party, divided into several factions, were competing to make statements to remain in the limelight and retain their political relevance before the party high command.
Goma also demanded that the Dharamshala MLA apologize for his alleged “indecent” remarks against Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
He said the MLA should focus on development issues rather than engage in political battles. Goma also accused BJP leaders of maintaining silence over the lathi-charge at Jantar Mantar and alleged that they had turned away from issues concerning public interest.
Several other Congress leaders were present during the press conference.
