Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh faced protests from students during a programme at Punjabi University, Patiala, where students submitted a memorandum highlighting their demands and raised slogans against the state government and the university’s Vice-Chancellor.

Students who have been staging a protest outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office for the past several days met the minister and apprised him of their demands.

The protesting students are seeking a rollback of the fee hike and a special grant for repairs and maintenance of Punjabi University’s hostels and other facilities. They have also raised concerns over the university’s debt and demanded the construction of new hostels.

The students are further demanding an immediate stay on hostel-related rules and the commencement of pending works without delay.

The protesters have been sitting on a dharna outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office gate for the past several days to press these demands. During the health minister’s visit, they raised slogans against the government and the Vice-Chancellor as they handed over their memorandum.
