Chandigarh, August 12

PizzaExpress, the UK’s No. 1 pizza brand, has entered Amritsar with its first restaurant in Punjab at Nexus Amritsar Mall. The new outlet is the brand’s 39th restaurant in India and marks another step in its expansion across the country.

Founded by Peter Boizot on London’s Wardour Street in Soho in 1965, PizzaExpress has become one of the UK’s best-known restaurant brands. It now operates more than 450 restaurants across the UK and has a presence in 13 countries globally.

Known for its rich food culture and hospitality, Amritsar has witnessed growing demand for premium international dining experiences. The city’s expanding retail sector and rising domestic and international tourism have further strengthened its position as an important lifestyle and dining destination in North India.

Rohan Pewekar, CEO of Gourmet Investments Hospitality Group (GIHG), said Amritsar’s vibrant food culture, growing retail ecosystem and evolving dining scene made it a natural choice for PizzaExpress. He added that the brand aims to offer consistent quality and warm hospitality while becoming part of the local community.

The new outlet has been designed as a relaxed all-day dining destination, offering PizzaExpress favourites and seasonal dishes. Its menu includes Dough Balls, gourmet pizzas, handcrafted pastas, fresh salads, appetisers, desserts and beverages. It also features the signature Romana pizzas, which have thinner, larger and crispier bases inspired by Roman-style pizzas.

PizzaExpress pizzas are made using the brand’s signature tomato passata, prepared by the Greci family in Parma, Italy, with sweet San Marzano tomatoes. Fresh dough is handcrafted daily by skilled pizzaiolos and topped with carefully selected ingredients before being baked in traditional ovens.

Kumar Asit, Brand CEO of PizzaExpress, said the brand’s culinary philosophy centres on quality ingredients, craftsmanship and consistency. He added that the menu is designed for a range of occasions, from quick lunches and family meals to casual gatherings and relaxed evenings.

A key highlight is the Calabrese pizza, created by Michelin-starred chef Francesco Mazzei. Featuring Southern Italian flavours, premium cheeses and spicy sausage, it is among PizzaExpress’ most popular pizzas globally.

Shambhavi Mishra, Group Head of Marketing at GIHG, said the brand aims to make gourmet dining accessible for everyday occasions. She added that PizzaExpress’ “Only For Everyone” philosophy focuses on creating a welcoming space where guests can enjoy quality food in a relaxed environment, regardless of the occasion.
