Two held in Ludhiana property dealer murder case

The Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in a joint operation with Commissionerate Ludhiana Police, have arrested two men wanted in connection with the murder of property dealer Harjinder Singh alias Harry Jhanda and recovered a 9mm Glock pistol and a live cartridge, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Manjit Singh alias Bobby and Mohit Kumar, both residents of Chanderlok Colony in Ludhiana.
According to police, several armed men carrying pistols and sharp-edged weapons attacked Harjinder Singh in Swatantra Nagar, Ludhiana, at around 11.30pm on August 7. He died in the attack.
Following the murder, AGTF teams received credible human intelligence about the whereabouts of two suspects wanted in the case. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), AGTF, Promod
Ban said the information was immediately shared with the Technical Cell, which successfully traced the movements of the two accused.
Acting on the technical inputs, AGTF teams led by Inspector Vikramjeet Singh launched coordinated operation with Commissionerate Ludhiana Police and arrested Manjit Singh and Mohit Kumar from the Tibba area.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation had revealed that Manjit Singh alias Bobby has a criminal history and has been involved in multiple criminal cases, including attempted murder and offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He was also allegedly operating a local gang in the Ludhiana city area.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Ludhiana, Swapan Sharma, said that the other accused allegedly involved in the murder had been identified and police teams were conducting searches to arrest them.
The case  has been registered at Police Station Tibba, Commissionerate Ludhiana, under Sections 103, 324(4), 307, 191(3) and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
