Patiala, August 11
A young man was stabbed to death in the Khalsa Colony area of Sanaur town in Patiala following an old rivalry. The deceased has been identified as Jashan Virk, a resident of Khalsa Colony.
According to the information available, the accused allegedly attacked Virk multiple times with a knife during a fight. A video of the incident has surfaced, while the entire altercation was also captured on CCTV.
Sources said the two sides had reportedly been involved in a dispute earlier. The accused youths had allegedly been released from jail previously and had cases registered against them, including under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and for attempt to murder.
Virk’s body has been kept at the mortuary of Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. BJP leader from Sanaur, Amandeep Singh Dhot, reached the hospital and said the deceased was the son of his friend.
Dhot said the incident raised serious questions over the law-and-order situation in Sanaur. He added that police were pursuing the registration of a case against the accused and their arrest.
The post-mortem examination of the deceased is scheduled to be conducted this afternoon.
Meanwhile, another youth, identified as Baldev Singh, was seriously injured while allegedly trying to save Virk during the altercation. He underwent surgery at Rajindra Hospital this morning and is currently reported to be out of danger.
