Kangra Police bans entry near rivulets, streams during monsoon

The Kangra Police have issued a strict warning to tourists, devotees and locals against entering streams and rivulets during the monsoon, cautioning that sudden rises in water levels could put lives at risk. The warning came after videos surfaced showing some tourists standing in the middle of a stream for photographs and consuming alcohol while sitting in the water. The Police said such reckless behavior could have serious consequences during the rainy season.

Kangra ASP Veer Bahadur said continuous rainfall in the Dhauladhar region could cause water levels in streams and rivulets to rise suddenly. He said people visiting religious sites, including Banganga Ghat at Kangra Temple, Chamunda Nandikeshwar Dham and Baijnath Dham, often enter nearby streams to bathe despite separate bathing facilities being available.

The ASP said sudden changes in water flow could sweep people away. He also warned that consuming alcohol along streams was a violation of the law and police would take action against those found engaging in such activities.

He appealed to tourists and local residents to avoid entering rivers, streams and rivulets during the monsoon. He said a moment of carelessness for a photoshoot could prove dangerous and even cost a person their life.
