Himachal Monsoon Session to be held from August 21 to September 3

The Himachal Pradesh Assembly’s Monsoon Session will be held from August 21 to September 3, with 10 sittings proposed, Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said on Friday.

Pathania chaired a meeting with police and other concerned officials to review law and order, security and traffic arrangements ahead of the session. He directed officials to ensure peace and security both inside and outside the Assembly complex and make adequate arrangements to deal with any organisation or protest.

The Speaker said legislators should be given full opportunity to raise issues concerning their constituencies and the state during the session.

“Ten sittings are proposed in the monsoon session so that legislators get a full opportunity to discuss issues related to their areas and the state. The Assembly Secretariat has started receiving information and notices from members, which are being forwarded to the concerned departments,” Pathania said.

He said the meeting with the police and other departments was held to issue necessary directions on security arrangements and other preparations to ensure the session could be conducted effectively.

Speaking about the rain-related damage in Chamba district, Pathania said the district had suffered considerable losses due to this year’s rainfall, with several roads washed away.

He said Public Works Department machinery was engaged in restoring the roads to minimise inconvenience to the residents.

On protests by youths in Delhi, Pathania said transparency was essential in a democracy. He stressed the need to strengthen the system to prevent incidents such as paper leaks and take strict action against those responsible.

“Those in power have to understand their responsibility. Only then will there be improvement and young people will regain trust in the administration,” he said.
