Architecture students explore healthcare design at Grewal Eye institute

Students of the Chandigarh College of Architecture (CCA) on Wednesday visited Grewal Eye Institute (GEI) Medicity to gain practical exposure to the planning and design of modern healthcare facilities.

Led by CCA Principal Dr. Sangeeta Bahga, the students toured various departments of the super-specialty hospital to understand how architectural planning contributes to clinical efficiency, patient comfort and the smooth movement of patients and medical staff within the facility.

Architect Jag Raj, who supervised the design and construction of the institute, conducted an interactive walkthrough, explaining the hospital’s design philosophy, space planning, sustainable features and key construction aspects. He highlighted the importance of integrating medical workflow, accessibility, aesthetics and patient-centric design while developing contemporary healthcare infrastructure.

Welcoming the students, Dr. S.P.S. Grewal, Founder of Grewal Eye Institute, said designing a specialized hospital requires balancing advanced technology, operational efficiency and an enhanced patient experience. He said such educational visits help aspiring architects understand how thoughtful planning can improve the quality of healthcare delivery.

During the visit, the students also examined the hospital’s infrastructure planning, use of natural lighting, patient-friendly design features and architectural principles that contribute to the development of modern healthcare facilities.
