BJP protests against Sukhu govt over cases against MLAs, warns of statewide agitation

The BJP on Wednesday launched a protest march against the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Himachal Pradesh government ahead of the monsoon session, raising objections over cases registered against BJP MLAs and alleging political vendetta. The march started from CTO Chowk and proceeded towards Oak Over, the Chief Minister’s official residence, with party leaders raising slogans against the government.

BJP state president Rajeev Bindal, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur and several party MLAs participated in the protest. They warned the government of a statewide agitation aimed at removing it from power.

Jai Ram Thakur alleged that the Sukhu government was working with a motive of political revenge. He claimed that the government had shut down institutions opened during the previous BJP regime and was now registering FIRs against BJP legislators.

Thakur alleged that officials were being pressured to frame cases and accused the government of attempting to suppress the Opposition’s voice. He said the BJP would continue to raise issues both inside and outside the Assembly, adding that the protest march towards Oak Over was part of the party’s campaign against the government.

Meanwhile, BJP Himachal Pradesh president Rajeev Bindal said the party had started a movement against the government’s alleged failures, which would be expanded at district and block levels.

Bindal said the BJP would highlight the government’s shortcomings and protest against what he called false cases against party MLAs. He added that the agitation would continue until the government was removed from power.
