Elderly woman murder: Panchkula Police arrest three within 24 hours, says DCP

Panchkula Police have arrested three people within 24 hours in connection with the murder of an elderly woman in Sector 21, allegedly committed by the family’s long-time domestic worker along with her husband and son.

The victim, the wife of a retired Army captain, was allegedly killed before the accused attempted to conceal her body on the roof of the house. The case came to light after the retired captain reported his wife missing, prompting a police investigation.

According to police, the investigation revealed that the family’s domestic worker, assisted by her husband and son, was responsible for the killing.
Police said the incident was allegedly triggered by a dispute over suspected gold jewellery theft from the victim’s house a few days earlier. The elderly woman reportedly suspected the domestic worker of stealing the jewellery and had gone to her residence to confront her. During the confrontation, an argument allegedly escalated into a physical altercation, during which the domestic worker pushed the woman, causing serious injuries that led to her death.

Addressing a press conference, Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of Police Aditi Singh said three accused had been arrested in the case.
She further disclosed that the domestic worker had been employed at the victim’s residence for approximately 15 to 20 years. The victim had reportedly approached her to discuss the suspected jewellery theft when the incident occurred.

Police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The accused will be produced before a court, and police will seek their remand for further interrogation.

DCP Singh also revealed that the domestic worker had not undergone police verification. Through the media, she appealed to Panchkula residents to ensure that domestic workers employed in their homes undergo police verification. Police said the investigation is continuing and several aspects of the case are still being examined. However, officers described the arrest of all three accused within hours of the alleged murder as a significant breakthrough in the investigation.
