Dharamshala college to celebrate centenary with year-long events

The historic Government College Dharamshala will celebrate its centenary year with a series of social, educational and cultural programs throughout 2026. The year-long celebrations were formally launched with a plantation drive organized by the Old Students Association (OSA).

Former Dharamshala Mayor and Congress leader Devendra Jaggi, who participated in the plantation campaign, said the completion of 100 years was a matter of pride not only for the institution but for the entire city of Dharamshala.

Established in 1926, the college is completing a century of academic excellence in 2026. To mark the milestone, the OSA has prepared a comprehensive calendar of events to be held throughout the year.

Speaking on the occasion, Jaggi said the celebrations would include plantation drives, blood donation camps, health check-up camps, career guidance sessions for students, and several social, educational and cultural activities. He added that alumni who have established themselves in various fields in India and abroad would participate in the programs and share their experiences with students.

He said former students of the college are serving as doctors, scientists, senior armed forces officers, corporate professionals and in several other prominent positions. Their interaction with the current generation of students, he said, would inspire and guide them as they shape their careers.

Jaggi said the centenary celebrations would be a memorable occasion for the city and noted that the college administration would also organize separate events to mark the milestone. He added that plans are in place to invite the Chief Minister to the concluding function of the centenary celebrations.

Appealing to current students and recent alumni, Jaggi urged them to actively participate in the year long events. He said celebrating 100 years of an educational institution is a rare achievement and provides an opportunity for former students to reconnect with their alma mater while inspiring future generations through their experiences.
