BJP-sponsored protesters disrupt peace in Kullu, MLA Sunder Thakur alleges political motive

Kullu, August 4

Kullu MLA Sunder Singh Thakur on Monday accused BJP-backed protesters of disturbing the atmosphere in the district headquarters over the death of late Manju Sharma, alleging that the demonstrations were politically motivated. He urged protesters to raise their health-related demands with their respective MLAs and seek discussion on the issues in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly.

Addressing reporters at Akhara Bazaar in Kullu, Thakur alleged that the people participating in the protests at Dhalpur were brought there by the BJP and were being “sponsored” by the party. He claimed that most faces seen during the demonstrations were associated with the BJP and accused them of creating unrest in Kullu.

The MLA said that when the BJP government was in power in 2018, a woman and her newborn daughter from Dhara village in the Manikaran valley had died at Dhalpur Hospital, but no such protests were held at that time. He alleged that the current demonstrations were aimed at political gains rather than addressing public health concerns.

Thakur said the state government had already taken strict action in the present case, with both the doctor and staff nurse suspended. He added that protests were affecting the working environment, with employees and officials becoming hesitant while carrying out their duties.

The Kullu MLA appealed to protesters to place their demands before their respective legislators so that health-related issues could be raised in the Assembly and steps could be taken to improve medical facilities at Dhalpur Hospital.
