Five new electric buses reach Dharamshala, HRTC to launch services soon

Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has received five new electric buses at its Dharamshala depot, with operations expected to begin soon after approval from the headquarters. The buses will be deployed on various routes, offering passengers a more comfortable, eco-friendly, and longer-range travel experience.

HRTC Divisional Manager Pankaj Chadda said the new Olectra electric buses have replaced the earlier PMI models and will be introduced once the headquarters issues operational directions. Each bus has a seating capacity of 32 passengers and is equipped with modern technology.

He said the new buses can travel around 180 kilometers on a single charge, compared to nearly 150 kilometers for the previous fleet. The buses are also quieter, pollution-free and fitted with an improved suspension system to provide a smoother journey.

Chadda said HRTC has successfully operated electric buses for the past three years without any major technical issues. He added that the induction of the new fleet will further improve passenger convenience and service quality.

He also said charging stations are being set up at depots and bus stands in Jogindernagar, Baijnath, Palampur, Nagrota, Dharamshala, Kangra, Shahpur, Jasur, Pathankot, Chamba, Bharmour and Chuwari. Infrastructure work, including transformer installation, is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed soon.
