‘Unfortunate’:Sukhu condemns lathi-charge on students in Delhi

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has launched a new initiative, the ‘Bhojan Samvad’ (Dialogue over a Meal) programme, aimed at strengthening coordination between the state government and the Congress organisation while gathering direct feedback from grassroots workers.

Under the initiative, Congress workers from the Pachhad and Chopal Assembly constituencies were invited to the Chief Minister’s official residence, where they shared a meal and interacted with him. Sukhu said a strong organisation forms the foundation of a strong government and that direct engagement with party workers would help the government understand regional issues and assess the implementation of welfare schemes.

The Chief Minister said around 40 to 50 party workers from each Assembly constituency would participate in the dialogue programme. He added that interactions had begun with workers from two constituencies and similar meetings would be organised with representatives from other Assembly segments to help the government remain informed about grassroots realities and improve policy implementation.

Commenting on the alleged lathi-charge on students in Delhi, Sukhu described the incident as “unfortunate” and strongly condemned the use of force.

He said the students were peacefully presenting their demands and alleged that force was used instead of listening to their concerns. “The Congress party and the Himachal Pradesh government oppose this lathi-charge,” Sukhu said.

The Chief Minister also referred to paper leak cases during the BJP’s tenure, claiming that several incidents had surfaced, including the police recruitment examination paper leak and the Hamirpur Staff Selection Commission paper leak case in Himachal Pradesh.

Sukhu said the Congress government had acted against corruption by ensuring those responsible were sent behind bars and by dissolving the Hamirpur Staff Selection Commission. He added that it is the government’s responsibility to take strict action against those who jeopardise the future of young people.
