A married woman in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district has accused her father-in-law of molestation and sending her obscene messages and videos through social media. Police have registered a case based on her complaint and launched an investigation into the allegations, officials said on Thursday.
According to the complaint, the woman has been living at her parental home in a village in Hamirpur district for the past ten months as she was not comfortable staying at her in-laws’ residence. She alleged that her father-in-law sent her an obscene video through his Facebook account on November 3, 2025, following which she blocked him on the platform.
The complainant further alleged that on January 7 this year, her father-in-law visited her parental home on the pretext of speaking with her. She claimed that he took her aside, threatened to kill her if she disclosed the messages and videos he had sent, and allegedly molested her when she resisted. The woman told police that she did not approach the authorities earlier due to fear and concern over social stigma.
Hamirpur Superintendent of Police Balbir Singh Thakur said a case has been registered and the allegations are being investigated seriously. He said police will examine all available facts, digital evidence and other relevant material before taking further action in accordance with the law.
Police said the investigation is underway and further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
