Kangra, July 1
The Kangra district administration has issued an advisory for residents and tourists following weather warnings from the India Meteorological Department, cautioning people to remain vigilant as heavy rainfall is expected over the coming days.
According to the weather department, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is likely in parts of the district on July 1, 2 and 4. An Orange Alert has been issued for July 3 and 5, with forecasts of thunderstorms, intense rainfall, hailstorms and gusty winds.
The administration has advised people to stay away from rivers, streams, seasonal nullahs and landslide-prone areas. Residents have also been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions. Tourists have been advised to avoid trekking and visiting high-risk locations, and to strictly follow instructions issued by the local administration.
Deputy Commissioner Kangra Hemraj Bairwa said water levels in rivers and streams can rise suddenly during the monsoon, making it unsafe to venture near them. He said the district administration is closely monitoring every weather update issued by the Meteorological Department and will release advisories whenever required. Information will also be disseminated through panchayat representatives and local bodies to minimize any risk to life and property.
In case of any emergency, citizens can contact the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kangra on the toll-free helpline 1077 or mobile number 7650991077.
