Chandigarh, June 12

Rainfall in several parts of Punjab and Haryana on Thursday evening brought much-needed relief from the intense heat that had gripped the region over the past few days.

According to the Meteorological Department, many areas experienced rain accompanied by gusty winds, resulting in a noticeable drop in temperatures across both states. Chandigarh, the common capital of Punjab and Haryana, also received rainfall in the evening.

The rain helped bring Chandigarh’s maximum temperature down to around 36 degrees Celsius, which remained below the normal level for this time of year. Over the past several days, temperatures across Punjab and Haryana have consistently remained above 40 degrees Celsius, causing discomfort for residents.

Several districts reported cooler weather following the showers, offering a temporary respite from the prevailing heatwave. Strong winds in some areas further improved weather conditions during the evening.

The change in weather brought relief to people who had been struggling with high temperatures and humid conditions throughout the week. Weather officials said rainfall contributed to a drop in daytime temperatures across the region.

Authorities continue to monitor weather conditions as parts of north India remain under the influence of changing summer weather patterns.
