Two held with hand grenades in Amritsar: DGP

Chandigarh, June 9

The Punjab Police have arrested two men allegedly linked to cross-border operatives and recovered two hand grenades in a joint operation carried out by Amritsar Rural Police and a central agency, according to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.

The arrests were made during an operation aimed at disrupting suspected terror-related activities in the border state. The police said preliminary investigations suggest the accused were in contact with handlers based abroad and were acting on their instructions. Officials believe the seizure of the grenades indicates a wider conspiracy that may have been intended to disturb peace and public order in Punjab.

A case has been registered at Gharinda Police Station under relevant sections of the law. Investigators are now working to trace both the network’s local connections and its overseas links, while efforts are underway to identify other individuals who may be involved. DGP Yadav said Punjab Police remains committed to dismantling terror networks, tackling organised crime and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
