Kullu, May 26
The first phase of Panchayat elections witnessed enthusiastic participation across 15 panchayats of Nagar development block in Kullu district on Tuesday, with polling being conducted peacefully at 101 polling stations. Voting began at 7 am and continued smoothly amid tight administrative arrangements.
A large number of voters, including youth and senior citizens, turned up at their respective polling booths to exercise their democratic rights. First-time voters were especially enthusiastic, describing the experience as an important moment in shaping local leadership and governance.
Officials stated that counting of votes for Panchayat Pradhan, Up-Pradhan, and Panchayat members would begin immediately after polling concludes at 3 PM. However, counting for Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti members is scheduled for May 31.
Manali MLA Bhuvneshwar Gaur also cast his vote at a nearby polling station and appealed to citizens to participate actively in the electoral process. He described voting as a “festival of democracy” and urged people to make the most of the opportunity, which comes once every five years.
The peaceful conduct of polling and the visible enthusiasm among voters reflected strong public engagement in grassroots democracy across the region.
