Kullu, May 21
The District Kullu Congress Committee on Wednesday observed the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at the Congress office in Dhalpur, where party workers gathered to pay floral tributes and remember his contributions to nation-building.
During the programme, Congress leaders and workers offered flowers before Rajiv Gandhi’s portrait and highlighted his role in shaping modern India through technological advancement, democratic reforms, and national integration.
Former Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Rajiv Keemta described Rajiv Gandhi as the architect of modern India, the pioneer of the information revolution, and a leader who envisioned a strong and self-reliant India for the 21st century. He said Gandhi worked towards introducing modern technology while preserving the unity and integrity of the nation.
Keemta also recalled several initiatives introduced during Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure, including strengthening Panchayati Raj institutions, lowering the voting age to 18 years, promoting information technology and telecommunications, establishing Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Indira Gandhi National Open University, and introducing welfare measures for women and marginalized communities.
He added that Rajiv Gandhi’s efforts toward national unity, development, and brotherhood continue to inspire political leaders across party lines.
