Kubja Thakur wins by one vote, Shalini re-elected in Kullu polls

The elections to the Kullu Municipal Council witnessed intense competition across all wards, with several close contests emerging during the vote counting held Sunday evening at Khori Ropa in Kullu. Among the most talked-about results was Ward No. 2, where Congress candidate Kubja Thakur secured victory by just one vote, earning her fourth consecutive term as councilor.

Kubja Thakur polled 356 votes, narrowly defeating BJP candidate Pushpanjali Sood, who secured 355 votes. Independent candidate Kartik Chaudhary received 121 votes in the same ward.

Another major highlight came from Ward No. 8, where independent candidate Shalini Rai Bhardwaj won convincingly with 378 votes, securing her second term as councilor. Congress candidate Asha Dogra managed only 83 votes in the ward.

In Ward No. 1, independent candidate Pushpa Thakur emerged victorious with 385 votes, defeating BJP-backed Trupta Mahant and Congress candidate Vishal Sood, who received 156 and 242 votes, respectively.

Ward No. 3 was won by independent candidate Asha Thakur, who received 222 votes. Congress candidate Ushmaj Sharma secured 180 votes, while BJP candidate Nisha received 157 votes.

BJP candidate Gyan Thakur registered a strong victory in Ward No. 4 with 483 votes. Congress candidate Digvijay Modgil secured 326 votes, while independent candidate Anita Sharma received 168.

In Ward No. 5, Congress candidate Pooja Sharma emerged victorious with 290 votes, defeating BJP candidate Rama Mishra, who secured 229 votes.

Ward No. 6 saw independent candidate Geeta Devi win with 289 votes. BJP candidate Bharti Kishore received 234 votes, while Congress candidate Geeta secured 128 votes.

Independent candidate Ramdei won Ward No. 7 with 292 votes, ahead of BJP candidate Priya Bharti, who got 247 votes, and independent candidate Shailja Gupta, who received 181 votes.

Congress candidate Jeevan Kala won Ward No. 9 with 352 votes, defeating BJP candidate Anupama and independent candidate Ameena, who received 183 and 260 votes respectively.

In Ward No. 10, BJP candidate Chandra Bhanu secured victory with 500 votes, while Congress candidate Hari Singh received 386. BJP candidate Rahul also won Ward No. 11 with 456 votes, defeating Congress candidate Subhash Gautam, who secured 345 votes.

Following the announcement of the results, winning candidates thanked voters for their support and pledged to continue development works in their respective wards.

Kubja Thakur said she was grateful to the people for giving her an opportunity to serve for the fourth time and promised to work towards making Ward No. 2 a model ward while raising public issues before the administration.

Ward No. 5 winner Pooja Sharma said she would continue working for the welfare of residents and resolving civic issues, just as she had done during her previous term.

Shalini Rai Bhardwaj, after her second consecutive victory in Ward No. 8, thanked voters and stated that efforts to develop the ward into a model area would continue.
