Patiala, May 6
A case of alleged sale of expired products has surfaced in the Leela Bhawan area of Patiala, raising concerns over consumer safety and regulatory oversight. The issue came to light after a local resident filed a complaint with the Food Safety Department, claiming he had purchased hair-color sachets from a grocery store that had already expired. According to the complainant, his wife developed an allergic reaction after using the product and had to seek treatment at Rajindra Hospital.
The complainant further alleged that when he revisited the same shop to purchase the product again, he once more found expired items being sold.
Following the complaint, a team led by Food Safety Officer Dr. Gurpreet Kaur conducted a late-night inspection at the shop. During the raid, several expired items were found stocked for sale. Officials seized a number of products from the premises and sent samples for laboratory testing, particularly those related to food consumption.
Speaking on the matter, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur confirmed that strict action is being initiated. She emphasized that the department will not tolerate the sale of expired or substandard goods and warned that similar violations anywhere in Patiala would invite legal consequences.
The affected family has accused the shopkeeper of negligence and endangering public health, while authorities continue their investigation based on lab results and further scrutiny.
