Patiala, April 29
A 36-year-old man was allegedly murdered with sharp-edged weapons in Dharokhi village of Nabha block in Punjab’s Patiala district on Tuesday night after he left home following a phone call, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Mohan Das, who had gone to his fields around 9 pm. According to his family, he received a phone call shortly before leaving home. When he did not return, relatives went to the fields and found him lying in a pool of blood.
Family members rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way. Police said the victim had sustained multiple injuries inflicted with sharp weapons.
The victim’s wife, Anita Rani, said her husband had stepped out after receiving the call and usually returned quickly. “When he did not come back, we informed his relatives. They found him lying injured in the fields. I have two daughters, and I want justice,” she said.
The victim’s brother and a local panchayat member said Mohan Das had no known enmity with anyone and demanded strict action against those responsible.
Station House Officer Jaspreet Singh of Nabha Sadar police station said a case has been registered based on the family’s statement. “We received information about the incident at night and reached the spot. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined from multiple angles, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused,” he said.
Police said further investigation is underway and assured that those involved in the murder would be traced and brought to justice soon.
