Dharamshala, April 24
The RTO Flying Squad in Dharamshala issued 5,193 challans across four districts of Himachal Pradesh during the financial year 2025–26, imposing fines totalling ₹1.85 crore for traffic rule violations, officials said.
According to officials, the enforcement drive covered Kangra, Chamba, Una, and Hamirpur districts between April 2025 and March 2026. The challans were issued for various violations involving both heavy and light motor vehicles.
RTO Flying Squad official Asim Sood said that out of the total fine amount of ₹1,85,53,000, ₹1,08,61,559 has been recovered so far, while around ₹74 lakh remains pending.
He said strict action is taken against violations such as absence of permits, pollution certificates, overloading, lack of fitness certificates, and insurance. The department also conducts awareness drives to encourage compliance with traffic norms.
Officials added that, in cases of repeated violations, the challan amount is increased in accordance with the rules to deter offenders.
Authorities said enforcement will continue in the coming months, with a focus on improving compliance and road safety, while efforts are underway to recover the outstanding penalty amount.
